If you’ve got many years’ experience working in the electrical industry but never completed an apprenticeship or the NVQ Level 3, there’s now a way you get formally assessed and meet the requirements for an ECS Gold Card from the JIB. The JIB Mature Candidate Assessment recognises existing industry experience and takes into account the work you have been carrying out to date. When you are successful you gain the industry Level 3 qualification * which meets the requirements for a Gold Card application. *either the City and Guilds 2356-99 level 3 in Electrotechnical Services for the Experienced Worker or EAL Level 3 Diploma in Electrotechnical Services Experienced Worker Assessment Route. You will also need to pass the industry achievement measurement competency assessment from NET (the AM2). Candidate Eligibility Typically you will have completed the relevant electrotechnical theory training, be able to demonstrate the application of technical knowledge that meets the scope of the qualification and have worked within the industry for several years. You must be able to provide sufficient evidence from the site and by witness testimony of previous work to fully meet the qualification specification in the required pathway. This assessment is not suitable for new entrants to the electrotechnical industry, apprentices or other trainees who require any training. They will need to gain the Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Installing Electrotechnical Systems and Equipment (buildings, structures and the environment). Information for Candidates Prior to enrolling onto this assessment programme, all applicants must be able to demonstrate their existing Technical Knowledge to the industry standards at Level 3 and in line with the current IET Wiring Regulations. Centre Registration This is a restricted qualification and approval from the JIB must be gained prior to making an application to either City and Guilds or EAL to become a licensed centre. This is to help ensure that the qualification is used as it is intended – a support for mature candidates to demonstrate their technical knowledge, performance and competence to the industry standard level 3 and not as training for new industry entrants. The JIB makes an annual administration fee for the centre to be approved to offer this assessment.
